Phone Connection

Guide for the telecom provider

Written by Indy Veldt

Purpose of this document

A customer of Atelyr wants to connect their AI Colleague to their business phone system. To do this, a SIP account is required — not a regular user account. This document explains exactly what needs to be created and how the connection works.

Important: SIP Account ≠ User Account

There is a fundamental difference between a user account and a SIP account. Atelyr exclusively requires a SIP account.

User Account

SIP Account

A login account for a staff member in the PBX management interface. Used to log in, change settings and view reports. Atelyr does not need this.

A telephony account that allows a device or application to register with the PBX. A SIP account has a username, password and domain, and behaves like a physical phone. This is what Atelyr needs.

Required SIP Credentials:

Provide the following three details to the customer after creating the SIP account:

SIP Username

SIP Password

SIP Domain

The extension number or username of the SIP account. E.g: 1050 or ai-colleague

The password set for the SIP account. Use a strong password

The SIP domain or IP address of the phone system. E.g: sip.company.com or 192.168.1.1

Step-by-Step Guide

Follow the steps below to correctly create and configure the SIP account:

Step 1

Create a SIP account in the phone system

Go to the PBX and create a new SIP account (or SIP extension). This is not a user account, but a telephony configuration that allows a device or application to register. Give the account a clear name, such as "AI Colleague Atelyr".

Step 2

Set SIP credentials

Set a username (or extension number) and a strong password for the SIP account. Note these details carefully — they will be needed later for the connection.

Step 3

Note the SIP domain

The SIP domain is the address at which the PBX can be reached for SIP registrations. This can be a domain name (e.g. sip.company.com) or an external IP address. Verify that this address is reachable from the internet.

Step 4

Check ports and firewall

Make sure the following ports are open in the firewall:

  • Port 5060 (UDP and/or TCP) — for SIP signalling

  • Ports 10000–20000 (UDP) — for RTP voice traffic

Step 5

Link the SIP account to a hunt group or queue

Add the SIP account to the desired hunt group or call queue in the PBX. This determines which calls are routed to the AI Colleague, and allows the AI Colleague to transfer calls to colleagues or departments.

Step 6

Share the SIP credentials with the customer

Provide the three required details (username, password and domain) to the Atelyr customer. The customer enters these in the Atelyr platform to activate the AI Colleague

Below is the screen the customer sees when entering SIP credentials in Atelyr.
